Klo Privacy Policy

Klo is operated by Baumi Ventures Inc. ("Baumi," "we," "us," or "our"), a company located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the Klo mobile application (the "App") or contact us about Klo. Baumi is accountable for personal information under its control and handles it in accordance with applicable privacy law, including British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act.

Privacy at a glance

  • You do not need an account to use Klo.
  • Location access is optional. If you allow it, Klo uses your location to show nearby facilities and provide distance or walking-time information.
  • Baumi does not receive or store your precise location on its own servers.
  • Klo does not contain third-party advertising, cross-app tracking, or analytics SDKs.
  • We do not sell or rent personal information.

1. Information handled by Klo

Location information

​

If you grant the App location permission, Klo accesses your device's location while you use the App. Klo uses this information to:

​

  • centre the map and identify the nearest supported city;
  • show nearby washrooms and drinking-water facilities;
  • calculate distance and estimated walking time; and
  • open directions to a facility when you request them.

​

Location access is optional. You can browse supported cities without sharing your location. Klo does not store your precise location in Baumi-operated databases or associate it with an account. The App keeps the current location temporarily in memory while it is running.

​

Klo uses Apple MapKit and related Apple services to display maps and calculate routes or travel estimates. When those features are used, Apple may receive information such as the visible map area, device location, route origin and destination, device and network information, and interactions with Maps. Apple's handling of this information is governed by [Apple Maps & Privacy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/apple-maps/) and Apple's other applicable privacy notices.

Information stored on your device

​

Klo stores the following information locally on your device so that the App remembers your choices and works offline:

​

  • onboarding status;
  • filter settings;
  • selected or enabled city settings;
  • the last visible map region; and
  • cached public facility data.

​

The last visible map region may indicate an area you viewed, but it is not sent to Baumi. You can clear cached facility data from within the App. You can remove the other locally stored information by deleting the App, or by using any reset controls Apple makes available for the App.

Feedback and communications

​

If you choose to provide general feedback or report a data issue, Klo opens your device's email application. Nothing is sent until you choose to send the email. If you do, we receive the information contained in the message, which may include your email address, name, facility details, and anything else you provide.

Information generated through network requests

​

The App downloads public facility information and images directly from civic open-data and municipal services. Like most internet services, those providers may automatically receive limited technical information from a request, such as your IP address, request date and time, device or network information, and the requested resource. A request may also indicate the city whose dataset you selected or that Klo selected based on your location. Klo does not send your precise device location to these civic data providers.

Baumi does not use analytics or advertising SDKs in Klo and does not use App activity to build advertising profiles.

2. How we use personal information

​

We use personal information only as reasonably necessary to:

​

  • provide and support Klo's location, map, directions, and facility-information features;
  • respond to feedback, questions, privacy requests, and data-quality reports;
  • troubleshoot, protect, and improve the App;
  • maintain appropriate business and legal records; and
  • comply with law and protect the rights, safety, and integrity of users, Baumi, and others.

Where consent is the appropriate legal basis, you may withdraw it at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing location permission will prevent location-based features from working but will not prevent you from browsing supported cities.

3. When information is disclosed

​

We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose limited information in the following circumstances:

​

  • Apple services. Klo relies on Apple for location permission, maps, directions, and related platform functionality.
  • Civic data providers. The App connects to municipal and open-data services to retrieve facility information and images.
  • Communication providers. If you email us, your email provider and Baumi's email service provider process the message.
  • Service providers. We may use providers that process information on our behalf under appropriate confidentiality and security obligations.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information where required or permitted by law, or where reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or the security of Klo and its users.
  • Business transactions. Information may be transferred as part of a proposed or completed financing, reorganization, merger, sale, or transfer of all or part of Baumi's business, subject to appropriate safeguards and applicable law.

External services have their own privacy practices. This Privacy Policy does not govern how Apple, civic data providers, email providers, or external websites handle information under their own control.

4. International processing

​

Apple, email providers, civic data providers, or other service providers may process information outside British Columbia or Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to that jurisdiction's laws and may be accessible to its courts, law-enforcement agencies, or other authorities in accordance with law.

5. Retention

​

Baumi does not retain your precise device location. Information stored locally by Klo remains on your device until it is cleared, replaced, or the App is deleted.

​

We retain emails and other information you send us only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, manage our relationship with you, maintain appropriate records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and meet legal obligations. We then delete or anonymize it, unless continued retention is required or permitted by law.

6. Security

​

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information under our control. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your choices and rights

​

You may:

​

  • decline location access and browse supported cities manually;
  • change Klo's location permission in your device settings;
  • clear downloaded facility data using Klo's Clear cache control;
  • choose not to send an email after Klo opens your email application; and
  • delete the App to remove its locally stored information.

​

Subject to applicable law, you may also ask Baumi for access to personal information under our control, request correction of inaccurate information, withdraw consent, or make a complaint about our privacy practices. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request, and legal exceptions may apply.

To make a request or complaint, contact our Privacy Officer using the details below. We will acknowledge and investigate privacy complaints, communicate the outcome, and take appropriate steps where a complaint is justified.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.

8. Children

​

Klo does not require an account and is not designed to collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent personal information to Baumi, please contact our Privacy Officer so that we can review and, where appropriate, delete it.

9. Changes to this Privacy Policy

​

We may update this Privacy Policy as Klo or applicable requirements change. We will post the updated policy with a new "Last updated" date and provide any additional notice required by law. Material changes apply prospectively unless otherwise permitted by law.
